Chef! is another great Brit Com. Living in England, I have seen the show since it came
on, and when they reaired it. I hope they do go ahead with season 4. Long live Chef! and
Red Dwarf.

were hilarious! I also bought the videocassettes of Series 1 at Sun Coast Video--thanks
for the tip, Joe. Hopefully we'll see Series 2 on videocassette soon!

What a show! Proof that all tv isn't a total waste. Chef's combination of innocence and
insults, sensitivity and bravado, are humor at its very best. Funniest from Britain since
Benny Hill.

I absolutely love this series! It disappears from time to time and I am so excited when
it resurfaces. The only problem is that it airs later at night. have therefore missed
several episodes. Is there any way I can get a copy of these? It is such a great show that
I would love to share it with my colleagues and friends. Keep up the great work!

Series 3 for me has been a real disappointment so far. I guess the producers are
treating us, their loyal public, like drug dealers treat their customers--give 'em the
good stuff first. I really miss the overall quality of the first 2 series, but my utter
attachment to the characters keeps me coming back for more. Thanks, by the way, for this
fabulous website.

I am really confused. Is there or isn't there Chef! on video? Unfortunately, the few
episodes I was able to catch on my vcr were lifted at a party(they could have taken the
vcr in- stead, that's how much I love this show!]. Anyway, being a passive foodie{rather
watch good food being made, rather than cook} I liked series1and2 slightly better than
3,but the last series left such great setup's for a fourth installation! I can clearly see
janice and Gareth getting back together, and Gareth having to suffer through group
counseling and Janice dying to get a nanny and go to work! And how about an offer from
lost-love intrest / entreprenure Rochell making some business deal with le cheatu,or
worse-Everton and - - I'm obviously in the wrong profession, but I love Chef! and Lenny
Henry is an absolute comic Einstein.I have another idea-a made for home video capsulation
and conclusion for Chef!? Sombody save this tortured viewer!!!!

Chef! is brilliant!! The 3rd season does lack the wit of the first two but Lenny's

Lenny's previous show "The Lenny Henry Show" and give Chef! fans a real tasty

It was absolutely amazing! About a year and a half ago, I turned on Channel 56 (our
local PBS station) and saw my first episode of CHEF! and.... HATED IT! Then, out of
curiosity, I turned it on again next week... after that, I think I became an addict. It's
like a Coletrane recording... sort of a seasoned taste... you can't just watch one episode
and know, but if you take the time to see more than one, you'll be hooked... guaranteed!
Of course, saddenned by the news of no series-4, but, admittedly, third series was not
nearly as good as first and second series. Although, I did see one or two from third
series that were just as good as almost any before. Also, does anyone know where I can
obtain a studio recording of Omar's "Theme from CHEF!"? I'd assume one is
available somewhere, perhaps in England. "EVERTON!!!"

Chef! *HAS* been commercially released on videotape. :) This weekend, I saw it with my
own eyes. I walked into a SunCoast Video here, and there it was. The first of the Chef!
tapes. It had three episodes on it, those being the first three (Personnel, Beyond the
Pass, Subject to Contract). I'm told there's a second tape out there called "Chef: A
Second Helping" that has the remaining three episodes of Series 1 and the Xmas
special on it. However, the store I was at was out of those. I picked up the tape (even
though I already had 'em on tape). It's started! Chef is out on NTSC video. Only Season 1
so far, but it is out.

Well, I've always liked "British Comedys" and now I have found the best one
by far. This show is so good that I have been able to convert normal Americans into loyal
Brits. I am really sad to hear that there will not be a season 4, to bad American T.V.
can't be this good. I also am sad that the most Lenny gets on the web is the mention of
being Dawn French's husband. This site is fabulous. Let's try to expand this into an all

Chef has been a fav in Canada for years now and we are lucky that it plays almost every
other month on some channel or another. Although I would love to see more Chef, I must say
that I was very dissappointed with the final series. Gareth losing the Chateau was not the
same as when he owned it, the character lost his edge. The staff change and set change was
also bad.. The original Gustav was the best and Series I was excellent.

Well, here's some info on the two current stories floating around about Chef.
First, the story that a fourth series has been produced is false. The intial rumour was that KERA in Dallas was to show it starting August 1997. A call to KERA has said that after Chef! finishes it's current run in Dallas (which is actually Aug 10 '97), it will be going off the air for awhile (KERA rotates BBC Comedies, and Chef has run through solid since last December). An E-mail to the BBC has confirmed that they have no IMMEDIATE plans for a Fourth Series of Chef.
The other thing is Chef! on NTSC video. I got an E-Mail yesterday saying that there
were to be two NTSC videotapes released TODAY (Aug 5th), called "Chef", and
"Chef: A Second Helping". I called the Suncoast Video by me (where I get all my
BBC tapes), and they didn't have it out today. The guy I talked to did say that he did see
that it was to be released on tape soon, because he saw it advertised in his store
magazine, but that he couldn't remember the date beyond "Late August, Early
September". He looked through again while I was on the phone, and couldn't find it,
but he said that he stongly doubts it's coming out today. If anyone gets any confirmed
sightings of Chef on NTSC videotape (or other tape for that matter), post something here
about it, so the rest of us can know it's actually out (does Suncoast have a web site?)

When we first saw Chef! we knew it was a favorite, as my father has managed and run
some of the bestand highest rated restaurants, as well as being trained in 'cheffing' in

I would like to say "thanks!" for this incredible site, like the incredible
programme itself. I've watched Chef! since it's inception and I believe that each Series
has progressively gotten better (despite the low-budget production in Series III--although
that even gave the programme more of a US-sitcom feel [maybe I'm weird, but I liked it]).
In my humble opinion, the writing is at it's best in Series III (especially considering
that Janice won't return in Series IV (since joining the cast of 'The Knock' or 'The
Knack' or whatever). I am very anxious to check out Series IV, as the foundation has been
laid in Series III (Chef!'s loss of the Chateau as well as his separation and subsequent
divorce from Janice). The happenings in Series III should add a new dimension to the show.
(There is definitely plenty of storytelling left.) Again, thanks for the kick-bum site!

After not being able to expect more from a comedy after seasons 1 and 2, season 3 seems
to have been produced on a shoestring budget. It has the harsh look of Video vs. Film, the
set *looks* like a set (is that dry ice in the kettles?) and the incidental music sounds
like a game show interlude. Alas, even writing that isn't quite up to the earlier quality
is given a good go by the cast. Lenny Henry is brilliant as ever. Roger Griffiths
likewise. It's a shame to see their production and their comic genious compromised by the
production quality.
