Great Site for a great show! Does anyone out there have a recipe for the Guinness Punch that Everton made on one episode? I've been searching out there for it to no avail. Any responses would be appreciated.

Amusing show! I watch it at night while my chef husband is (usually) at work...and I can relate too well to Janice Blackstock's character. My parents watch it to try to get a taste of their son-in-law's work life, though they know he's not a screamer like Gareth. Can't wait for Series II & III to make it to our local TV!

I keep trying (and failing) in expressing just how superior a show like Chef! is to most of the "entertainment" that is put out there. So, I thought I would let Lenny do it for me! "Let me put things in perspective for you—on the evolutionary scale of cooking, I am Einstein . . . and you are a mud dwelling, uni cellular speck of jelly with a predilection for consuming its own excrement" Chef! rules!!!!

CHEF! is a outright riot! Lenny's tirades against the staff, his facial expressions, and his hatred of buttinsky inspectors are worth losing an hour's aleep every Sunday night! I heard there was a video of some Lenny's work before CHEF! Can anyone help me out?

As the contributing food editor of the Austin Chronicle (an alternative newsweekly in Austin, Texas) I recently had the opportunity to interview Lenny Henry, Peter Tilbury (writer of Series I & II) and John Burton-Race (chef-owner of ** L'Ortolan restaurant outside London and consulting chef) for an article I wrote about Chef! Check out the article at our web address http://www.auschron.com The title is "Art Imitates Chef" and it ran in the April 11, 1997 edition of the paper. Hope you like it. vbw

Chef! is the FUNNIEST show on TV. I generally don't like British comedies or cooking shows, but Chef! has converted me. My friend from Austin turned me on to it and we call each other almost every week and laugh about the previous episodes. Does anyone know when they will run new shows again in Dallas? (please mail me if you do). Long Live Chef!

I stumbled upon Chef! quite by accident, and I have to agree that it is one of the best TV comedies I've seen! The writing, acting, and directing are all tops. My only complaints (other than the fact that there are too few episodes and that they aren't available on video tape) are the discontinuity between seasons (actors, characters, kitchen organization). Or that's been the case. I hate to say that we just watched Season 3 Episode 1 and were quite disappointed. More mugging and physical humor, less inspired ranting. Loss of his fantastic wife, addition of "foils" in the person of the obnoxious owner and the standard obnoxious American. And decreased production values (tape quality, sound, and lighting all very poor). Different production company? I hope later episodes return to their roots.

Chef! is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen! When I recommend it to people, they often think I'm recommending a "cooking" show - I suppose one could think of it that way - but the combination of outrageous comedy and actual cooking (I fancy myself a bit of a cook) is fabulous. The Brits strike again.

Whenever someone makes me mad, I just picture Lenny Henry's long-winded tirades. The man is an artist at telling someone to go to hell. He is my role model. Lenny Henry deserves an Oscar or something.

I sing in a band and anyone who knows me that has seen CHEF! calls me chef (is that good...) I understand being "trapped in the tyranny of my talent", "I am so alone", and being "... a shit that (sings) cooks". I am more than excited about this show and Lenny's art. If we don't find Chef! tee shirts soon we will be forced to make them ourselves! Question: Are the episodes re: the buying of the restaurant etc that lead up to Janice's leaving Series II? I have all those ending with the Cook off in "Froggie-land". I have seen up to the point where Everton (sort of thing) gives Gareth his passport for Jamaica... is that Series III? Thank you Lenny, thank you Matt, for great art and a place to meet others that appreciate this amazing show. email me with answers and tee shirt orders! :)

Hi Chef, I am kind of new at this, (the intrnet) but I am surprised how much information is out there. I have a Restaurant in San Jose CA . My web page is www.emiles.com and you can find out much more about me. Together with my Chef de Cuisine Michael Schibler we run also a Cooking School. We are thinking of writing a book together; any advise? I did not anwer to the URL question because I do not understand it. I put my page in as many search engines as I can; is that the way it is done? When I look at your page I realize that I have a lot of work to do and I better get at it. Wow! This show is the best! I've been watching the show for about a year now, when those Dawgs at PBS don't stick cr*ppy ball room dancing in it's slot here in Miami. The characters are great and the stories and acting are hilarious. I used to think that Rowan Atkinsons was the only brit that made great comedies, but lookie here, Lenny Henry has moved to the top of my list! Sorry to say I haven't gotten to see most of the new epi's yet but they're running the 1st season here I never got to see so I'm still happy. Keep up the great work Lenny!

Well, after showing four episodes of Series III our local station broadcast "Personnel" the first episode of Series I, which appears to be the very first episode of Chef! Chef! has long been one of my favorite shows (along with Roots Into Europe reruns). I have been trying in vain to find videotapes of these shows. Does anyone know yet if they are available in North America? In addition, I am wonderiing what happened to the original Gustaf and what is missing between the Christmas espisode of Series II and the second episode of Series III (I missed the first) and is Lenny Henry really a chef as well as a great actor/comedian?

Chef! was on Saturday night once again in the Phoenix area with the fourth episode of Series III I believe. THE VERY BEST EPISODE TO DATE!! The scenes of Gareth and Everton tooling around in that little car with their sunglasses on were priceless. Next week's TV guide indicates Chef! will be on once again. The entry says "Personnel" so it looks like things are headed back to the kitchen. Hope it's yet another new episode.

I LIVE for Chef! My family used to watch it whenever we could. Lenny Henry does something amazing by yelling and screaming and saying "smart" insults. Anybody can scream and swear but somehow this man can do it much better! And not only that, but he is a chef too... Lenny Henry... what can I say. The man's a genuis... serious profession. Where shall I start. First off, in Montreal, there's not many BBC channels that come in on a regular basis. Coronation Street, Red Dwarf... but CHEF! has to be one of my faves. Mr. Henry is exceptional at what he does. I've seen him in other features, Bernard and the Genie for one... but his role as Gareth is simply amazing. Put Chris Barrie, (if he's out of jail yet) and Lenny Henry together, and you got yourself one wicked power hour of fun. Anyways, here's hoping Mr. Henry drops me a line, if not, some kick-ass receipes... I can use them. My cooking sucks. Ciao.

I am a chef, and therefore am interested in the Culinary Institute and would much appreciate if Lenny Henry would come to my house and help me prepare... 1) A Seafood Tarrin 2) Chestnut crushed and roasted rack of lamb 3) Ancho Seared chicken with grilled oyster mushrooms 4) Pineapple and cocnut and Ron Cocco serbet I would like to see lenny Henry himself, (BERNARD AND THE GENIE), and his lovely TV wife. prepare these delciate french delciacies. Chef! Is not funny! Those episodes really do happen to Chefs everyday, and Chefs react exactly like Garreth. Except we do handle a knife now and then. The first time I happened to channel surf onto Chef! it floored me because it was sooo real. I was flabergasted: how could an actor create the aura of kitchen pressure on a stage? He does it by being intense all of the time. But really, I'm grateful to the style of British comedy that can poke fun at a " serious profession". I love his line, " I don't do nice; I'm a shit who likes to cook!" No truer words have been spoken!

Finally found this site..heard about it from a fellow CHEF fan...Only CHEF can keep me up till after midnight on Sunday nights which is when our local PBS station airs it...wish they would do a marathon on it for their "pledge weeks" so that more people would be aware of the best sitcom from the Motherland to hit our shores! Gareth helps me to laugh at myself since I run a business and I have employees that work for me that matche every personality that he has in his kitchen, and then some...but like him, I love them all no matter how much I get steamed during the busy time. I just went to see The Beautician and the Beast (OK movie, I guess) and guess who had a significant role(actually, third billing in the closing credits)?? IAN MCNEICE - namely, the original Gustave LaRoche from Series II. He does a very good job, I musy say - he's very funny, and he's CLEAN!! :) I'm proud that someone made it big from the series; I just wish more people had gone to see Lenny Henry's 1st American movie.

The very first night Chef! was on here ion the Dallas area I was in another room working on my PC when I heard my wife laughing uncontrolably. This struck me as odd becuase I used to have to almost force her to watch british comedies... I had to find out what was good enough to make her laugh... I am still laughing with her. This thrid season is a bit of a departure, but that is probably good. Change keeps the show fresh. In any event, thanks for giving us this page. We have been devoted fans of Chef! since I first saw the series noted in the TV Guide. I spotted Lenny Henry's name, having seen him in 'Bernard and the Genie' (with Rowan Atkinson) - a GREAT little Christmas comedy we have enjoyed over and over. We have watched the Chef! series so many times now, we know all of the lines by heart! We were overjoyed when we were channel surfing this evening to find that they have made a Seies 3. Keep up the good work, Lenny! We hope you'll do some more! Glad to find this Web page as well; we've added it to our BritCom folder.

The series has to be one of the funniest shows I have had the pleasure of watching. Being a profesional chef myself, I can relate to alot of the happenings in his kitchen. Fortunately all the kitchens I have worked in have not been quite so hectic. I have always been surprised at how well they have portrayed the working atmosphere in the kitchen. I hope it can last for a few more seasons and I look forward to watching many more shows. The series in Canada is shown very infrequently, I would like to get any information on how I can purchase copies of this series. If you have such info please e-mail me at this address. Love this page!!!

God, I love Chef! I only wish there were a station in my area that broadcasts it. Unfortunately, I have only one show on tape (and I wear it out). Are Chef tapes on the market? And, for pity's sake, who does a girl hafta know to get Chef aired in L.A?!?! Oh, by the way... LOVE THIS SITE!!!!!! T

I am currently an apperentice with the Ameriacn Culinary Federation, and I would greatly appreciate any info. about studing under a chef in England. I have allways been facinated with England from its beautiful countryside to its stunning arcitecture.I am 19 years old and have been in food service for 4 years. In these four years Ihave come to the conclusion that I want to spend the rest of my life in this wonderful buisness and to strive for an encyclopedic knowledge of all aspects of food service. So please write to me or e-mail me with as much info as possible

Cow & Bug in Perfect Harmony has been found in Texas! I live in Dallas TX, and the other day got a lead on English Stilton. There is a food store here called Whole Foods Market. I was able to get it from them. It tastes a lot like Bleu Cheese to me. If you like Bleu Cheese, you'll probably like Stilton.
